The counselling process and developing the therapeutic relationship

Tutor-led teaching and group discussions
Skills practice in pairs or small groups
Reflective journals and written assignments

Self-assessment and peer feedback

You’ll be encouraged to look inward and reflect on your own values, beliefs, and personal experiences—vital work for any aspiring counsellor.

What Makes Level 3 Unique?
Level 3 is often described as the “heart” of counselling training.
It’s where the theory starts to make sense and personal insight begins to deepen.
While Level 2 teaches you how to listen, Level 3 teaches you why people feel and act the way they do.
You start to understand how trauma, attachment, and identity shape human behaviour, and how counselling can offer healing and growth.

Is It Challenging?

Yes—but in the best way.
This isn’t just academic training; it’s personal work.
Many students find the self-development aspect to be both confronting and rewarding.
You’re invited to explore your own emotional landscape in a safe, supported environment, which helps you grow both as a person and a future practitioner.
Next Steps After Level 3
Once you complete the CPCAB Level 3, you’ll be ready to apply for the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, which qualifies you to practice as a professional counsellor.
Some students also go on to study related fields like coaching, social work, or mental health support roles.
